Young Athletes

To my high school and college athletes, this part of the site is just for you. Congratulations on your athletic career—you have made it further than most, because you’re here!

As you already know, society values sports a very high level. This means there’s a spotlight on you, our athletes. Sometimes that can be fun, exciting and rewarding. It also means there are a lot expectations placed on you—by parents, coaches and fans. You’re dedicating most of your time to your sport, and negative energy can stress you out, hurt your performance and take all the enjoyment out of the game.

You might stop playing sports before reaching high school or continue playing well past your teens, making sports part of your adult life for decades. No matter what your goals are, sports should leave you a better person.

This site—Rethink the Win—can help you hear the views and thoughts of other athletes, both young athletes like yourself and professionals who’ve gone through everything you’re going through. You’ll learn personal stories from athletes who can relate to everything you’re experiencing and find tips for how you can handle everything that might be thrown at you—on and off the court or field. I want to empower you to get the absolute most from being a student athlete.

I found that playing sports in high school and college opened doors for me I never would have otherwise found, and they provided me with skills that have shaped my career and life. I want the same for you.

I would love for you to email me with your questions or tell me about your own experiences—good, bad or in-between. My goal is to be an advocate for athletes and connect your time in sports to building a strong identity outside of sports.

Browse around, keep coming back and let me know your thoughts. And if you want me to come talk to your team, just let your coach or parents know and have them reach out to me.

Now, Rethink the Win!

Lea B.

Bring Back the Fun

Athletes won’t remember the individual wins or losses, but they will always remember a coach who brought positive energy, the camaraderie of friends and mastering a skill.
